The African Democratic Congress, ADC, says it is working towards a consensus option in choosing its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said the option is under consideration as the party narrows its choices for the presidential ticket.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’s One-on-One programme, Abdullahi said the party now has direct primaries and consensus as the available options. He added that indirect primaries are no longer being considered under the amended Electoral Act.
He said consensus would be the preferred route for the ADC because it is less costly and easier for the party to manage. According to him, the party is working to build agreement around that option ahead of the next presidential contest.
Abdullahi also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, saying its strength is tied closely to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He argued that the party could begin to weaken after Tinubu and described the president as the force holding it together.
He further claimed the APC was showing signs of anxiety despite its broad control of government structures. Abdullahi said a party with 31 governors and a dominant presence in the national assembly should not appear unsettled if it was confident of victory.
The report also named former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi among presidential hopefuls linked to the ADC platform.
