The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved a fresh round of appointments for the leadership and governing council of Akwa Ibom State University as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and service delivery in the education sector.


In separate press releases issued on 23 February 2026 by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the administration of Umo Bassey Eno confirmed the appointments, which take immediate effect.
According to the statement, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon D. Etuk, JP, CFR, Oku Ibom Ibibio has been appointed Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University. The Governor also approved the appointment of Professor Otoabasi E. Akpan as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
In addition, the Governor approved the constitution of a new Governing Council for the university. Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, CON was named Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Other members of the council are Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Surveyor Mfoniso Essien, Lady Barrister Dr Stella Udoh, Dr Enofiok Edem, the Honourable Commissioner for Education or a representative, and the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy or a representative.
The government said the appointments align with its commitment to reposition key institutions in line with the ARISE Agenda, with a focus on improved service delivery and effective implementation of education policies.
The Governing Council is scheduled to be inaugurated on Monday, 23 February 2026, at the Executive Council Chamber in the Governor’s Office in Uyo. All appointed members are expected to attend punctually.
