President Bola Tinubu has signed the Electoral Act 2022 Repeal and Re enactment Bill 2026 into law, completing the legislative process for a new framework governing elections in Nigeria.
The assent follows the passage of the bill by the National Assembly of Nigeria on Tuesday, after months of committee reviews, stakeholder engagements, and floor debates in both chambers.
The new law repeals the Electoral Act 2022 and replaces it with updated provisions intended to address gaps observed during recent elections. It strengthens the legal basis for election administration, including clearer rules on result transmission, the use of technology, and procedures for resolving disputes.
With presidential assent now secured, the Act becomes enforceable and will guide the conduct of future elections, pending implementation by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the issuance of any required regulations.
