Four members of the House of Representatives have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party, LP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, during plenary on Wednesday.
The lawmakers are Inuwa Garuba, who represents Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Abdullahi El Rasheed, who represents Dakku Nafada Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Mohammed Audu, who represents Karim Lamido, Lau, Ardo Kola Federal Constituency, and Obika Chinedu, who represents Abuja Municipal, Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory.
Garuba, El Rasheed and Audu left the PDP, while Chinedu moved from the LP to the APC.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the defection notices during Wednesday’s sitting. The lawmakers said internal crises in their former parties informed their decision to leave.
The latest development adds to the pressure on the PDP, which is still grappling with internal divisions over its leadership and direction.
In a related development, Adewale Adebayo, who represents Irepodun, Olorunda, Osogbo, Orolu Federal Constituency in Osun State, also formally left the PDP and joined the Accord Party.
