The Nigerian military says troops have recovered 74 terrorist bodies after a series of operations across the North-East.
Defence Headquarters said the operations were carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai between March 13 and March 19, during which forces also repelled attacks and recovered weapons.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, said the troops foiled a drone-assisted attack and launched follow-up missions that led to the recovery of the bodies. He added that soldiers also recovered 38 AK-47 rifles, three PKT machine guns and an RPG tube.
The military said one of the major encounters took place in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, where troops repelled an attack and killed a large number of fighters, including senior commanders.
It said separate air and ground operations also pushed back attacks in Baga, Damboa, Buratai and Njimtilo, in what the military described as a major disruption to insurgent activity in the region.
According to the military, troops also blocked infiltration attempts in Bama, Gujba and Kaga local government areas, while some suspected logistics suppliers and informants were arrested.
The latest briefing comes amid renewed security concerns in the North-East following recent attacks in parts of Borno State.
