The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has advanced its digital inclusion drive with a five-day capacity-building programme for youths from Nigeria’s South-South region, held in partnership with the South South Development Commission (SSDC).
The training, conducted simultaneously in Abuja and Uyo, brought together participants from the six states of the South-South zone for immersive sessions in Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and emerging digital skills aimed at fostering innovation, job creation, and entrepreneurship.
Over the weekend, the intensive workshop wrapped up with participants gaining hands-on experience in core ICT tools and practical AI applications. To further support their learning journey, each beneficiary received a laptop and financial assistance to ensure active participation throughout the training period.
The initiative has drawn commendation for the leadership of SSDC Managing Director/CEO, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, whose vision to empower South-South youths through digital literacy continues to attract high-impact national collaborations.
Following the successful pilot in Akwa Ibom State and the Federal Capital Territory, officials confirmed that the programme will soon expand to other states within the region to deepen digital inclusion and broaden its impact.
The partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s digital transformation roadmap and reinforces NITDA’s mandate to equip Nigerians with sustainable technology skills for the evolving digital economy. Stakeholders disclosed that additional training initiatives under the SSDC–NITDA framework are underway to position the South-South as a leading hub for technology innovation and enterprise.
