The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a fresh turn, with the Tanimu Turaki led faction set to challenge the recent Court of Appeal ruling at the Supreme Court.
The move follows the appellate court’s decision to uphold the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November. The court held that the process leading to the convention failed to comply with the Electoral Act, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the constitution of the party.
The convention had produced Tanimu Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and other members of the National Working Committee.
Reacting to the ruling, the faction said it had instructed its legal team to begin the process of appealing the judgment at the apex court. It expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would deliver a final decision on the matter.
The group also said it was consulting relevant organs of the party on the next line of action and urged its supporters to remain calm and steadfast despite the setback.
The latest development marks another chapter in the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, as rival groups continue to contest control of the party’s structure.
