President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for another five years. The decision took effect on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Dr Audi first assumed the role in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial term concluded last Friday during celebrations for World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja. He will return to his post on Monday with a fresh mandate to lead the agency.
President Tinubu urged Dr Audi to strengthen the NSCDC’s contributions to national security. He emphasised the need for the corps to step up, particularly as the police concentrate on core duties such as safeguarding citizens against bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
Born on 30 September 1967 in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Dr Audi began his education locally. He earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987. He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education in Akwanga in 1992.
Pursuing higher studies, Dr Audi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1995. He secured a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, followed by a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in Keffi in 2014. In 2019, he completed a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
Dr Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996. After basic training in 1997, he served as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. He progressed through various state commands and rose to Commandant rank in 2007, after which he worked in the Commandant-General’s office at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
