The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said it will be difficult for the opposition to defeat President Bola Tinubu in Abuja in the 2027 general election, citing ongoing infrastructure development across the territory.
Wike spoke during a post-project inspection of road corridors in Karu, the Apo-Karshi axis, Gwagwa and Kubwa, where he said the Tinubu administration had changed the development outlook of the FCT through major works in satellite towns and rural communities.
He said residents were responding to what they could see on the ground, arguing that the extension of road infrastructure beyond the city centre had improved mobility and altered public perception of government performance.
According to him, communities that once faced serious access challenges are now being linked by motorable roads, while travel time from outlying areas into the city has reduced significantly.
Wike said the administration’s approach was designed to reduce the long-standing concentration of development in the city centre by opening up satellite communities and making them more attractive for work and living.
He added that some of the projects were being accelerated for inauguration as part of activities to mark President Tinubu’s third year in office.
The minister maintained that visible improvements in infrastructure would strengthen support for the President in the FCT ahead of the next election cycle.
His remarks come as political actors begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general election, with the Federal Capital Territory expected to remain one of the key battlegrounds in the presidential contest.
