Akwa Ibom APC shifts focus to unity, inclusion and early grassroots mobilisation after its congresses.

Now that Akwa Ibom APC has concluded its congresses, the party has entered a new phase. The contests are over. The internal choices have been made. The next task is more important. It is the task of building unity, restoring trust where needed, and turning party structure into real political strength across wards, units and local government areas.

Every congress leaves behind two groups. There are those who emerged and there are those who did not. That is normal in party politics. What matters after the exercise is how the party manages the outcome. A congress should not mark the end of participation for anyone. It should mark the beginning of a broader effort to bring members together under a common purpose.

Akwa Ibom APC cannot afford a post-congress atmosphere defined by suspicion, bitterness or quiet withdrawal. If the party wants to compete strongly in the coming electoral cycle, it must create room for inclusion. Leaders who emerged from the process must carry others along. Those who did not emerge must also decide to stay engaged. A political party grows when members place the larger objective above personal disappointment.

Even more importantly, while the official list of the just concluded ward congress is yet to be made public, there is already heightened apprehension among members of the old leadership and among those who may emerge as new leaders. That anxiety is understandable, but it must not be allowed to create rancour within the party. This is the point where stakeholders must step in with wisdom and restraint. They must find practical ways to encourage old members to stay on with hope and dignity. Those who have helped to build the party over time should not be made to feel cast aside. Their experience, loyalty and grassroots connections still matter. A stable party does not weaken its own foundation at the moment it should be consolidating it.

Unity, however, must be built on sincerity. That is the real test. It is easy to speak about togetherness. It is harder to practise it in local meetings, in appointments, in consultations and in conflict resolution. Sincerity of purpose means leaders must listen to members at the grassroots. It means promises made during the congress season should not be forgotten once positions are secured. It means every stakeholder should show commitment to party growth, not only to personal relevance.

This is also the time for honesty within the party. Akwa Ibom APC must assess its strengths and weaknesses with clear eyes. It must identify where it has strong local structures and where those structures exist only on paper. It must know which communities need renewed engagement. It must understand that elections are not won by title holders alone. They are won by committed members, polling-unit workers, youth volunteers, women leaders, community influencers and voters who feel seen and respected.

That is why early grassroots mobilisation should now begin in earnest. The new election timetable has changed the rhythm of political preparation. Whether the dates seem far away or not, time moves quickly in politics. A party that waits until the last moment to organise its base often ends up reacting instead of leading. Akwa Ibom APC should not make that mistake.

Grassroots mobilisation should not be reduced to rallies or slogans. It should be structured and continuous. The party needs active ward meetings. It needs functioning unit-level coordinators. It needs data-driven voter outreach where possible. It needs regular engagement with women, young people, professionals, artisans and community groups. It needs to explain its message in simple terms and do so consistently. It also needs to reconnect with members who may have become inactive over time.

Early mobilisation also gives the party time to heal internal divisions. When members work together on a common project, tensions often reduce. Shared activity builds fresh loyalty. It helps to move attention away from who won what during congresses and toward what the party can achieve together. That is where maturity becomes visible.

For the newly emerged leaders, this is the moment to lead with restraint and discipline. Victory should not produce arrogance. Leadership in a political party requires patience, consultation and emotional balance. Those who now carry the party’s structure in Akwa Ibom must remember that they are custodians of a collective platform. Their conduct in the weeks ahead will shape the tone of party relations across the state.

For loyal members, this is also a moment of responsibility. Commitment to party growth should not depend only on personal gain. Strong parties are sustained by people who stay the course, contribute ideas, mobilise others and defend the common interest even when they are not in the spotlight. That is the culture Akwa Ibom APC needs to deepen.

The congresses are over. The real work has started. The party now needs peace within, clarity of direction and disciplined mobilisation from the grassroots upward. If it can combine unity with sincerity, and structure that unity around early local engagement, it will place itself in a stronger position for the contests ahead.

Akwa Ibom APC has crossed one stage. It must now show that organisation can lead to purpose, and that purpose can lead to progress.

This is a well worked out Party structure and management that will be strongly on ground base on its grass rout mobilization. APC, the Renewed Hope Agenda National and the Arise Agenda in Akwa Ibom are ready for 2027. God see us through.
