The Senate has passed the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, 2026 appropriation bill of ₦2.2 trillion, with 76 per cent of the budget, amounting to about ₦1.7 trillion, set aside for capital projects.

The bill was passed for third reading during plenary on Thursday after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the Senate Committee on FCT on the 2026 FCT Appropriation Bill.
The proposed spending plan received broad support from senators, but some lawmakers raised concerns over the revenue assumptions supporting the budget.
Senator Sani Musa and the Senate Chief Whip called for a detailed breakdown of the FCT’s revenue profile, including clear information on the sources of funding for the proposed expenditure.
They said the details were necessary to strengthen transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability in the management of public funds.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in his remarks, agreed with the concerns raised by the lawmakers and stressed the need for accountability in the implementation of the budget.
He said the FCT Administration must ensure that the funds are applied to projects and programmes that will improve infrastructure and service delivery across the territory.
