I believe that meaningful development deserves recognition, especially when it produces visible results, strengthens public institutions and improves the lives of citizens. This is why I consider it important to highlight the recent developmental strides recorded in Akwa Ibom State under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D.
Across the state, the administration is implementing projects that reflect a clear commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security, tourism and economic growth. These interventions are guided by the ARISE Agenda, which provides a practical framework for addressing the immediate needs of the people while positioning the state for sustainable development.
Road infrastructure remains one of the strongest areas of focus. Major roads, bridges, drainage systems and rural access routes are being constructed or rehabilitated across different parts of the state. Projects such as the Ring Road III Extension and other strategic road corridors are improving connectivity, reducing travel time and opening communities to new economic opportunities. Better roads also support agriculture, commerce, education, healthcare delivery and investment.
The healthcare sector has also received significant attention. The development of the Ibom Medical City represents a bold step towards expanding access to advanced medical services within the state. This investment will help reduce dependence on treatment outside Akwa Ibom, attract qualified medical professionals, create jobs and strengthen the state’s position as a destination for specialised healthcare.
In education, the administration continues to invest in school infrastructure, teacher recruitment, digital learning and basic education reforms. The ongoing development of model schools and the strengthening of educational institutions demonstrate an understanding that no society can achieve sustainable progress without investing in its children and young people.
Agriculture and food security are also central to the government’s development strategy. Through investments in model farms, rural roads, agricultural support programmes and market access, the administration is creating opportunities for farmers, young people and agribusiness investors. These initiatives can increase food production, reduce unemployment and strengthen household incomes.
The state is also making progress in aviation, tourism, transportation and industrial development. Investments in Ibom Air, tourism facilities, compressed natural gas buses, the Ibom Deep Sea Port and other strategic projects can expand the state’s economic base and attract private investment.
Another important achievement is the government’s emphasis on financial discipline, transparency and project scrutiny. Careful assessment of contracts and the use of professional estimates have helped the state reduce unnecessary expenditure and redirect resources towards priority projects.
We must talk about these developments because public discussion should be guided by facts, visible progress and measurable impact. Constructive criticism is necessary in every democracy, but genuine achievements should also be acknowledged. Development requires continuity, stability and the collective support of the people.
Governor Umo Eno has demonstrated calm leadership, compassion, prudence and commitment to service. I therefore urge the people of Akwa Ibom State to continue supporting his administration. With sustained cooperation, the government can complete ongoing projects, deepen reforms and deliver greater opportunities across the state.
Akwa Ibom is progressing. Our responsibility is to support the vision, preserve the peace and contribute meaningfully to the continued development of our state.
