X is set to launch XChat, a standalone messaging app linked to its social platform, on Friday, according to recent App Store listings and technology media reports.
The new app is designed as a separate space for private conversations on X, which was previously known as Twitter. Its App Store description says users will be able to chat with people on X in a focused environment without ads or tracking, and that the service will offer end-to-end encryption.
Recent coverage indicates the app had earlier been expected on April 17, but the release was pushed back. A newer listing now points to Friday, April 24, though the date may appear as April 25 in some App Store regions because of time zone differences.
XChat appears to be part of the company’s broader effort to expand beyond the main X timeline and build out a more dedicated messaging product. The company had already been testing a separate X Chat experience on iOS, and recent reports suggest the service has been gaining features such as voice notes ahead of the wider rollout.
The launch places X more directly in competition with established messaging platforms by offering a separate chat experience under the X brand, while keeping users connected to their existing identities on the social network. That positioning is based on the app description and the company’s earlier testing activity.
