The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, has directed the immediate commencement of biometric registration and data update for all commercial tricycle and minibus operators in the state.
According to a public announcement issued by the two agencies, the exercise will begin on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the operational office of the Ministry of Transport, former AKTC, Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo.
The government also said the process for unified ticketing for revenue collection has already been communicated to tricycle, popularly known as Keke, and minibus operators through their union representatives.
It stated that all operators are expected to comply with both the biometric registration and update exercise, as well as the new technology-driven daily ticketing system through AkwaRemit into the state’s Treasury Single Account from the same date.
The announcement was jointly signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, and the Executive Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Sir Okon Okon.
The move signals a fresh push by the state government to strengthen revenue administration and improve documentation of commercial transport operators across Akwa Ibom.
