Governor Umo Eno has assured Akwa Ibom residents that more government projects will soon be commissioned, as he also highlighted steps being taken to improve electricity supply in the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday during the March Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo. He said his administration remained focused on timely project delivery and sustained development across key sectors.
Eno said the state was currently pursuing 86 priority projects outside roads, hospitals and schools. He urged stronger cooperation among ministries, departments and agencies to improve implementation and service delivery. He also directed the establishment of an inter-ministerial committee to fast-track the completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres.
Speaking on electricity, the governor said the present supply challenge was linked to low power generation across the country. He, however, assured residents that the state government was engaging relevant stakeholders and pursuing reforms aimed at enabling Akwa Ibom to take greater control of its electricity market.
He said the government had developed a clear roadmap on power and remained committed to securing improved supply for homes, businesses and public institutions in the state.
The meeting reviewed 55 projects, with timelines and commissioning dates agreed for several of them. The projects covered a wide range of sectors, including public infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, transport, housing, hospitality, security and aviation.
Among the projects reviewed were the Governor’s Office Annex, AKWA-GIS House, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hotel, Itam Industrial Park, International Market in Ikot Ekpene, Youth Friendly Centres, Arise Palm Resort, Judiciary Village, the 350-bed International Hospital, the Security and Command Centre, AKBC House, the Court of Appeal Complex, airport infrastructure projects, Ibom Farms, Arise Shopping City, the Agric Equipment Leasing Company, and Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.
Other projects examined included Oron Maritime Infrastructure, Ibom City Bus Service, general hospitals, AKICORP House, agricultural programmes, security infrastructure and major housing developments across the state.
The governor also approved N2.5 billion for the procurement of more than 620,000 palm seedlings for distribution to registered farmers in the 31 local government areas. The approval followed a presentation by the Agriculture and Food Security Committee. Eno said the initiative was designed to support agricultural productivity and strengthen economic growth. He added that the programme would be formally launched at a later date.
Also at the meeting, the Commissioner for Works presented an update showing that another batch of 10 roads covering 58.5 kilometres had been completed and would be ready for commissioning in May 2026. The roads are part of more than 1,300 kilometres of road projects being executed across the state.
Senior government officials and stakeholders attended the meeting, including Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government Enobong Uwah, Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor Aniefiok Johnson, commissioners, delivery advisers and other key officials.
Some stakeholders, including representatives of women and youth groups, commended the administration’s financial discipline and resource management. Former Deputy Governor Nsima Ekere and APC state chairman Stephen Ntukekpo also praised the governor’s performance.
In his closing remarks, Eno thanked participants for their contributions and said his administration would continue to pursue the ARISE Agenda in the interest of the people of Akwa Ibom.
