Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel is exploring whether recent military gains can be turned into a broader agreement that meets the country’s war aims and protects its core security interests.
In a statement, Netanyahu said he spoke earlier in the day with United States President Donald Trump, whom he described as a friend of Israel. He said Trump believes the recent achievements recorded with the support of the U.S. military may have created an opening for an agreement that could help secure the objectives of the war while preserving Israel’s vital interests.
Netanyahu said that even as such an opportunity is being considered, Israel’s military operations are continuing. He said Israeli forces are still carrying out strikes in both Iran and Lebanon, with efforts focused on degrading Iran’s missile and nuclear capabilities and inflicting further damage on Hezbollah.
He said Israel had continued to target individuals connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, adding that two more nuclear scientists were killed only a few days ago. According to him, Israeli operations remain ongoing and active across the region.
Netanyahu maintained that Israel would continue to act decisively to defend itself and would protect its vital national interests under all circumstances, whether through military action or any agreement that may emerge from current developments.
