Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the release of N123.5 billion to contractors handling newly approved road projects and ongoing works across the state.
The government said the funds will cover mobilisation fees, right-of-way compensation, and the settlement of due Interim Payment Certificates for contractors involved in various road projects.
According to a press release dated April 10, 2026, the projects span more than 167 kilometres of roads across the state. They include the Ikwe-Odio Road, the six-lane dualisation of Nnung Udoe-Afaha Offiong-Afaha Nsit with a rotary intersection, the dualisation of Afaha Offiong-Ikot Imoh-Itreto, and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden-Okorete-Iko Road with two mini bridges in Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo local government areas.
A breakdown of the release shows that N69 billion is for newly awarded projects, while N54.5 billion will go towards outstanding payment certificates and additional works on existing projects.
The state government said the payment is intended to enable contractors to make full use of the construction season and deploy the resources needed to complete the projects within schedule.
It added that the release reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion under the ARISE Agenda.
The statement was signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.
