By Destiny Young, Uyo, November 4, 2025
In what can be described as a landmark moment in the history of Akwa Ibom State, the administration of Governor Umo Eno has introduced a fully digitised recruitment process for entry into the state civil service. The process began today with the commencement of the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) examination for prospective applicants.

The test is being conducted at the newly established 2,000-seater capacity a day CBT Centre located within the State Secretariat Complex. The facility is furnished with state-of-the-art digital equipment and reliable power and internet infrastructure, reflecting the government’s commitment to efficiency and transparency in public service management.
The CBT model represents a significant departure from the traditional manual recruitment processes that were often marred by human interference and favouritism. By introducing digital testing, the Umo Eno administration has ensured that the recruitment exercise is transparent, credible, and merit-driven. Candidates are now evaluated solely on their individual competence and performance, which strengthens public trust in the system and upholds the principles of fairness in governance.

Governor Umo Eno’s initiative goes beyond recruitment. It symbolises a broader vision to institutionalise digital governance as a tool for accountability and administrative efficiency in Akwa Ibom State. Through such forward-thinking initiatives, the government is demonstrating its resolve to modernise public sector operations and align them with global best practices.
Digital transformation remains a critical driver of modern economies, and Akwa Ibom State is taking proactive steps to integrate technology into governance and public service delivery. The digital testing system is not only a tool for fair employment but also a demonstration of the government’s readiness to harness digital technology for sustainable development and economic growth.
As the CBT examination continues, thousands of applicants are participating with renewed confidence that merit will determine their employment outcomes. This innovation by Governor Umo Eno underscores his vision of building a transparent, accountable, and digitally driven public service where every citizen has an equal opportunity to serve based on ability and competence.
With this groundbreaking step, Akwa Ibom State stands out as a model for other states in Nigeria, showcasing how technology can be effectively leveraged to strengthen governance and uphold integrity in public administration.
