Officials of the Akwa Ibom State Government have intensified preparations for the commencement of international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport, following an inspection of critical facilities to assess operational readiness.

The inspection was led by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Bob, alongside officials from the Ministry of Special Duties and representatives of the Ibom Deep Sea Port project team. The delegation reviewed essential infrastructure, including terminal access routes, vehicle parking areas, security perimeter fencing, electricity supply systems, and designated operational zones within the airport.
Speaking after the exercise, Mr Bob said the inspection formed part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the airport meets required standards ahead of the planned commencement of international services. He noted that prior to the inspection, he had convened a technical meeting with contractors and engineering teams to evaluate construction progress and address outstanding technical issues.

According to him, work on the facility has advanced steadily, and current progress indicates that the April 2026 target for international flight readiness remains achievable.
Mr Bob attributed the pace of development to the state government’s resolve to upgrade aviation infrastructure and position Akwa Ibom as a stronger participant in regional and international air transport. He affirmed that the Ministry of Special Duties will maintain close supervision of ongoing works through routine inspections and technical reviews to ensure adherence to quality and delivery timelines.
The move is expected to enhance connectivity, support investment inflows, and strengthen the state’s economic integration with international markets once international flight operations commence.
