South African police have arrested a female suspect in connection with the murder of a 22‑year‑old Nigerian e‑hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, in Pretoria West.
The incident occurred on February 11 after Mr Satlat picked up passengers who had requested his service.
CCTV footage reportedly shows a female passenger attacking him while a male passenger in the back seat joined in the assault. The victim was allegedly strangled from behind, and the suspects then dumped his body on the back seat before taking control of the vehicle. Police later recovered the hijacked car with Mr Satlat’s body inside.
The arrest followed the investigation into the killing and further arrests are expected as the probe continues. The suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of car hijacking and murder.
Mr Satlat was a student in South Africa and was reportedly due to graduate in March. His death has prompted public outrage and renewed discussion about violence against Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.
