The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to host the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during activities to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day in the state.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, 7 March 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. It will bring together women leaders, policy makers, entrepreneurs and community representatives from within and outside the state.
Organisers say the gathering will focus on this year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” The programme is expected to highlight the role of women in governance, enterprise and community development while also celebrating their contributions to society.
As part of her visit, the First Lady will inaugurate the ARISE Senior Citizens’ Centre in Uyo. The facility is an initiative of the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Mrs Patience Umo Eno. The centre was developed to provide support services and social engagement opportunities for elderly residents.
Located within the state’s medical corridor along Uyo Ikot Ekpene Road, the centre includes a primary health care clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, supermarket, lounge, library, orchard, games room, gymnasium, chapel and counselling unit. It also provides kitchen and dining facilities designed to meet the daily needs of senior citizens.
Officials say the project is the first in a planned network of similar centres that will be established across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno described the visit of the First Lady as an important moment for the state. According to him, the occasion reflects growing national recognition of Akwa Ibom’s commitment to social development and policies that support women and vulnerable groups.
The state government also called on residents, particularly women, to participate in the celebration and extend a warm welcome to the First Lady and her delegation.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Hon Aniekan Umanah.
