The member representing Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Unyime Idem, has begun the training of 150 youths in digital marketing and e-business development as part of his empowerment programme for young people in the constituency.

The training, which is fully funded, covers accommodation and meals for participants and organisers throughout the exercise. At the end of the programme, each participant is also expected to receive a new laptop and a cash grant to support the practical use of the skills acquired.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, Idem, who also chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, said the initiative aligns with his broader plan to equip 1,000 constituents with information and communication technology skills and related knowledge.
He was represented at the event by former Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly member, Idongesit Umoh, who said the lawmaker remains committed to youth development through skills acquisition, job creation and economic empowerment.
According to him, the latest group of trainees will undergo practical sessions in digital marketing, online branding, social media management, e commerce operations and other business development tools required to build viable online enterprises.
He said the digital economy continues to create new opportunities and that young people must be prepared to take advantage of them through relevant training and access to the right tools.
Idem also stressed that investment in human capacity development remains one of the most effective ways to reduce unemployment and poverty, especially among young people.
The training organiser and Managing Director of Oldbosom Nigeria Limited, Michael Adewole, said the programme would expose participants to the basics of digital marketing and practical steps for starting and growing online businesses.
He said the sessions would focus on digital content creation, online product promotion, customer engagement and the use of digital tools to build sustainable businesses.
Some of the participants praised the initiative, describing it as timely and valuable. They said the opportunity would help them improve their livelihoods and pursue business ideas using the knowledge gained from the training.
In January 2026, Idem sponsored a similar programme for 100 young constituents in cyber security. Participants in that exercise also received laptops and cash grants after completing the training.
