President Bola Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to begin the distribution of rice across Nigeria to support Muslims observing Ramadan and Christians in the Lenten season. The directive was disclosed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as director-general of the group.
Uzodimma said the intervention is meant to provide relief to vulnerable citizens during a period of religious reflection and sacrifice. He said the programme would be carried out through the group’s structures at state, local government and ward levels across the country.
The announcement comes amid wider food support efforts linked to the fasting season. In Jigawa State, the Federal Ministry of Information said Tinubu donated 12,000 bags of 25kg rice for Ramadan, while the state government added 2,350 bags to the package.
However, key details about the nationwide rice distribution remain unclear. Reports reviewed did not disclose the total quantity of rice to be shared across the country, the source of funding, or the state-by-state allocation.
The development is also likely to draw political attention because the Renewed Hope Ambassadors is widely seen as a pro-Tinubu mobilisation platform. That places the initiative within a broader national conversation around welfare support, political messaging and grassroots engagement ahead of the next election cycle.
