The National Caretaker Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has said the party’s national convention slated for March 29 and 30, 2026, will go ahead as scheduled.
In a press conference on Sunday, the committee said existing court judgments had affirmed its authority to manage the affairs of the party. It maintained that the rulings of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal remain valid and binding, and urged party members and the public to disregard opposing claims.
The committee also raised concern over moves it said were aimed at destabilising the party. It alleged that a group led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, was seeking an injunction from a court in Ibadan to stop the convention.
According to the committee, the development was regrettable because the party leadership had made efforts to resolve disagreements through dialogue and reconciliation. It said several opportunities were offered, but the faction involved did not take part in the process.
The committee said the PDP remained committed to unity, internal democracy and the rule of law. It added that it would resist any action capable of frustrating the party’s legitimate activities or undermining its stability.
It also called on the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the State High Court to take note of what it described as attempts to abuse court process in order to hinder the party’s plans.
The committee reaffirmed its confidence in the judiciary and said it trusted the courts to act in line with the law and the principles of justice.
It further assured party members across the country that preparations for the national convention had been concluded. According to the committee, the PDP is fully prepared to hold a successful, transparent and credible convention.
The statement urged members to remain calm, law-abiding and focused as the party moves towards the convention.
The press conference address was signed by Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Working Committee.
