The Nigeria Police Force says its operatives have arrested two suspects over the large-scale vandalisation of railway infrastructure and recovered materials valued at more than ₦400 million.

The suspects, identified as Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22, were arrested on April 9, 2026, at about 6pm in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the arrests followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad.
According to the police, the operation led to the interception of a trailer truck conveying about 60 tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers.
The recovered materials were allegedly concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in an attempt to evade security checks while being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State.
Preliminary investigations showed that the driver of the truck was allegedly contracted for ₦2.5 million to transport the vandalised materials.
The police said further findings indicated the existence of an organised supply chain involving receivers of stolen railway infrastructure.
During the investigation, the operatives reportedly rejected a ₦100 million bribe allegedly offered to compromise the case and secure the release of the suspects and exhibits.
The police said the trailer truck used in conveying the items had been recovered, while investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, including the intended receivers.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for what he described as courage, discipline and integrity.
He said the conduct of the officers reflected the core values of the Force and its commitment to protecting critical national assets.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to safeguarding public infrastructure from vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage.
The statement was signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on April 27, 2026.
