The Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Christopher Ekong, has commissioned the newly completed UAMCOS House, describing the project as a clear demonstration of responsible leadership, commitment and effective use of cooperative resources.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the University’s Main Campus on Nwaniba Road, Uyo, with the Vice Chancellor serving as Chairman of the occasion.


Professor Ekong commended the President of the University of Uyo Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Professor Eme Joseph, and members of the Management Committee for successfully delivering a modern and well furnished facility for the benefit of the cooperative society.
He described the building as magnificent, functional and befitting of the status of the University community.


According to the Vice Chancellor, leaders are often judged by their ability to translate promises into visible results. He noted that Professor Joseph and her team had demonstrated accountability by completing the project and providing members with a facility that would support their social, professional and economic needs.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Eme Joseph expressed appreciation to members of the cooperative society for their trust, cooperation and financial support throughout the period of the project.
She also thanked the University Management for honouring the invitation and supporting the activities of the society.
Professor Joseph praised the Vice Chancellor for his fatherly guidance and continued encouragement, noting that the support of the University Management had contributed significantly to the growth and stability of UAMCOS.
She explained that the new building was designed with several sections to provide essential services and improve the overall experience of members.
Earlier, the Vice President of UAMCOS, Professor Uwem Akpan, welcomed guests to the ceremony and highlighted the speed with which the project was executed.
He stated that the building was constructed and completed within a relatively short period through proper planning, cooperation and commitment by the leadership and members of the society.
Goodwill messages were presented by the representative of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU National, Professor Aniekan Brown, the Chairman of ASUU, University of Uyo Branch, Professor Olajide Opeyemi, and the President of UNICOOP, Comrade Felix Edem.
The speakers congratulated UAMCOS on the successful completion of the project and encouraged the leadership to maintain the facility for the lasting benefit of members.
In his vote of thanks, the Secretary of UAMCOS, Professor Nsikan Senam, appreciated the Vice Chancellor, University officials, invited guests and members of the society for contributing to the success of the event.
The ceremony featured a guided tour of the facility led by the Vice Chancellor, alongside members of the UAMCOS Management Committee and Board of Trustees. The building was also formally dedicated to God.
Dignitaries at the event included the Registrar, Mrs Blossom Okorie, the Bursar, Dr Moses Akpan, the University Librarian, Dr Thomas Adigun, the Senior Pastor of Insight Bible Church, Dr Sylvanus Ukafia, Professor Enobong Joshua, Deans of Faculties and other senior members of the University community.
The newly commissioned UAMCOS House contains a conference room, restaurant, snack bar, shop and other facilities designed to meet the needs of members of the cooperative society.
