Akwa Ibom State is set to record another major aviation facility with the planned development of an airstrip within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone.
The aviation project forms part of the approved master plan for the Free Zone and is designed to support investors, enterprises, workers and other authorised users operating within the industrial zone.
The proposed facility is a shared infrastructure project intended to serve the broader operational and logistics needs of the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone.
The Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone master plan also includes railway infrastructure, eco tourism facilities, heavy industrial development areas and light industrial development areas.
The Zone is promoted by the Akwa Ibom State Government and administered and regulated by the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, OGFZA.
As the statutory regulator, OGFZA approves and supervises activities undertaken within the Zone, with the full knowledge of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

Aerospace Aviation Free Zone Enterprise is registered as a development investor in the Zone. Its participation is expected to support the development of the aviation component of the Free Zone master plan and strengthen the infrastructure required for efficient industrial operations.
Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer FZE, Black Rose, Ibom Logistics LNG FZE and several other registered licensees are major investors within the Zone.
Their investments continue to enhance the profile of the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone, attract wider business interest and contribute to the emergence of the Zone as a strategic destination for industrial, energy and logistics development.
OGFZA may also enter into development partnerships for the provision of infrastructure within the Free Zone. Every project and activity must, however, receive the necessary regulatory approval before implementation.
When completed, the airstrip is expected to improve the movement of investors, technical personnel, equipment and essential materials within the Zone.
The project will complement the maritime, railway and industrial infrastructure contained in the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone master plan and strengthen Akwa Ibom State’s position as an emerging destination for oil, gas, petrochemical and logistics investments.

most information in this publication are misleading and incorrect. Probably because of the choice of words that can relay different information to the public. Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone has its own Master Plan which includes an Air Strip, Railway, Eco Tourism, Heavy and Light Industrial development areas and is being regulated by the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority as rightly captured in the publication. Aerospace Aviation Free Zone Enterprise is registered as a Development Investor in the Zone. The Zone is promoted by Akwa Ibom State Government and administered or regulated by the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority. Sterling Petrochemical & Fertilizer FZE, Black Rose, Ibom Logistics LNG FZE and several other registered licensees are Investors in the Zone. In the course of promoting their investment interests, they all promote the zone where their investments are resident. Please note that while the Zone Authority is willing to enter into development partnership for infrastructure in the Zone, the Airstrip is approved and designed to serve users of the Free Zone, not a private interest. Besides, it is the Regulator who must approve every activity to be undertaken in the Zone, with full knowledge of Akwa Ibom State Government.
I want to correct an impression here about the original location of SPFL Company in Akwa Ibom which many claims it’s located in Ikot Abasi LGA.
Please know this and have peace, that the project SPFL is doing in Akwa Ibom is Located in Eastern Obolo LGA, not Ikot Abasi LGA.
