UYO, Nigeria. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has concluded its state congress with Obong Stephen Leo Ntukekpo returning as State Chairman. The congress adopted a consensus approach to elect the executive leadership, a move aimed at promoting unity across party ranks.

The consensus arrangement was propelled by a motion moved by Senator Aniekan Bassey of Uyo Senatorial District and seconded by Surveyor Clement Jimbo, member representing Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Federal Constituency. Party delegates affirmed Ntukekpo’s leadership along with a full executive slate. Among those elected were Aniekan Ekpo as Deputy State Chairman, Envoy Nsentip Akpabio as Secretary, Barrister Kemfon Neke as Treasurer, Barrister Victor Akpan as Organising Secretary, Patrick Edeke as Publicity Secretary, Obonganwan Obonodo Uko as State Woman Leader, and Clement Awakessien as State Youth Leader, among others.
The APC is one of Nigeria’s two major political parties, formed in February 2013 from the merger of key opposition parties and now a dominant force in national politics. It has led the federal government since winning the 2015 presidential election. The party’s organisational calendar includes staggered ward, local and state congresses culminating in a national convention this month as part of internal renewal and preparation for future elections.
The APC is now the ruling party in Akwa Ibom State. Party leaders say this position places it in a strong position to support Governor Umo Eno in delivering his Arise Agenda. With the next governorship election approaching, the fully constituted state executive has time to consolidate its structures, mobilise supporters and prepare for the 2027 contest.
Party stakeholders described the congress as a demonstration of cohesion and readiness as the APC positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to organisational growth and grassroots engagement across the state.
