The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has applauded Governor Umo Eno for what he described as the orderly and peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress state congress in Akwa Ibom.

Akpabio, who attended the event at the Uyo Township Stadium, said the atmosphere throughout the exercise reflected unity and discipline among party members. He recalled that previous congresses in the state were often marred by internal disputes, parallel gatherings and bitter rivalries.
According to him, the outcome of the latest congress showed the impact of wider consultations and inclusive leadership within the party. He noted that the emergence of a new state executive committee through consensus aligned with the provisions of the party constitution.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, the Senate President contrasted the recent exercise with earlier congresses that were characterised by factional claims and disputes over recognition by the national leadership. He also referenced instances in other states where congresses reportedly witnessed unrest and violence.
Akpabio said the Akwa Ibom process stood out for its calm and unity, adding that there were no reports of disturbances from the ward level to the state congress. He attributed the development to what he called responsible leadership and reconciliation among former political rivals.
Party members at the venue affirmed their support for the second term ambitions of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Akpabio and Governor Eno through a voice vote.
In his address, Governor Eno expressed appreciation to the Senate President for attending the congress. He thanked party members for maintaining peace throughout the ward, local government and state congresses. The governor also reaffirmed the state chapter’s support for the administration of President Tinubu.

The congress returned Obong Stephen Ntukekpo as State Chairman. He is expected to lead the new executive committee with an emphasis on unity and mobilisation across the grassroots.
