Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Gas, Rt Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, has praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her continued support for gender equality and women’s empowerment across the country.
Ekpo gave the commendation after the First Lady’s visit to Akwa Ibom State on Saturday for the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.



During the visit, Mrs Tinubu also inaugurated the ARISE Senior Citizens Centre, a project of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady stressed the need to empower women, describing it as essential to national progress. She said support for women and families remains key to building a more inclusive and stronger society.
Reacting to her visit, Ekpo, who was accompanied by his wife, Lady Esitmbom Ekpo, said the First Lady has remained consistent in promoting inclusion and supporting programmes that benefit women and families across Nigeria.
He expressed confidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu would continue to produce policies and initiatives aimed at improving family welfare and supporting vulnerable groups.
The minister also praised Governor Umo Eno for establishing the ARISE Senior Citizens Centre, saying the project reflects care for elderly citizens and supports the broader social welfare goals of the federal government.
He described the governor as a leader with clear vision and commended his commitment to programmes designed to improve the wellbeing of residents in Akwa Ibom State.
Ekpo also acknowledged the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for backing the administration of Governor Eno and contributing to the development of the state.
He said cooperation between federal and state leaders remains important in sustaining development and raising the standard of living of the people.
Named in honour of the First Lady, the ARISE Senior Citizens Centre features a primary healthcare clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, library, lounge, gymnasium, games room, counselling unit and other facilities created to support the health and comfort of elderly residents.
