Barr. Morgan Ekanem, PhD, is the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. He carries out that role with humility, discipline and uncommon competence, reflecting the leadership style of his principal, Governor Umo Eno.
He hardly needs an introduction in Akwa Ibom. In many ways, he is the one who introduces others at major state functions. He does this with precision, calm and confidence. Many may not know the effort that goes into such public responsibilities, but one fact stands out. Barr. Morgan Ekanem has mastered his craft and continues to distinguish himself through preparation, excellence and service.
He is a seasoned master of ceremonies and a development-focused leader who has continued to expand his impact. As proprietor of the MORE Leadership Academy, he has created a platform for mentoring and equipping young men and women with leadership skills that can sharpen their capacity and prepare them for greater responsibilities.
At the child dedication of Baby Blossom Morgan Ekanem on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Victory Chapel, Town Campus of the University of Uyo, Ikpa Road, Uyo, Governor Umo Eno offered words that captured the value of Barr. Morgan’s service. According to the governor, Barr. Morgan is not only his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, but also his go-to person. That description speaks volumes about the trust, reliability and efficiency he brings to his office.
The governor noted that while he is often cautious about openly praising young people doing well, because public commendation can sometimes lead to a drop in performance, Barr. Morgan Ekanem had earned special mention through the consistency and quality of his work.
Referring to his service, Governor Eno said they had gathered to celebrate a man who had shown diligence in what God had given him to do. He cited the timeless truth that a diligent man will stand before kings and not before ordinary men. He described Barr. Morgan’s commitment to service delivery as impressive and remarkable.
The governor’s words were direct and weighty. He said Morgan had always been available to help get things done. He described him as a facilitator who could be trusted to deliver promptly and effectively whenever speed and competence were required.
That message carries an important lesson for young people. Governor Eno urged youths to distinguish themselves through excellence in whatever responsibility they are given. According to him, excellence attracts trust, opens doors, improves livelihoods and supports social progress.
Barr. Morgan Ekanem’s own testimony gives even deeper meaning to that lesson. He spoke of his years of service in church, at that same altar, where he laboured faithfully and without noise. He recalled being sent to Abak to help plant a new branch of the church, a task he handled with commitment. He cleaned chairs, carried speakers on his head and offered quiet prayers to God, asking that his life would be magnified in the same way the speakers amplified people’s voices.
That story matters. It reminds young people that glory often has a hidden history of sacrifice, discipline and service. Barr. Morgan’s journey is a clear example of how faithful service can shape destiny. It was on that same altar, five years ago, that destiny located him. The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, noticed him and later gave him his first appointment as Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Service.
His story is rich in lessons. It tells young people to serve from where they are. It tells them not to wait for ideal conditions before giving their best. It shows that wherever service is rendered with sincerity, whether in the church, community, private sector or public office, it can become the doorway to greater opportunities.
Barr. Morgan’s testimony also points to the value of talent, discipline and consistency. Mr Udom Emmanuel reportedly left that church service still asking, “Who is that boy?” That question was inspired by excellence. In the brief moment Barr. Morgan was given the platform, he delivered with distinction. That is another lesson for young people. Whatever your talent is, develop it. Refine it. Stay consistent. Keep showing up.
The life and testimony of Barr. Morgan Ekanem should inspire many young people in Akwa Ibom and beyond. His journey affirms that service still speaks. Diligence still matters. Character still opens doors. And when preparation meets opportunity, the results can be life-changing.
