
Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has approved 11 Executive Bills and directed that the draft legislation be transmitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative action.
The approval covers bills on tourism development, lottery regulation, senior citizens welfare, geographic information services, broadcasting, honours and awards, skills acquisition, water user regulation, public defence, emergency medical services, and hospital administration.
A notable part of the package is the proposed transformation of Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, AKBC, into Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, IBC.
The bills approved by the council are the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Development Commission Establishment Bill, Akwa Ibom State Lottery Regulatory Agency Bill, Akwa Ibom State Senior Citizens Centre Management Agency Establishment Bill, Akwa Ibom Geographic Information Service Bill, Ibom Broadcasting Corporation Bill, Akwa Ibom State Honours and Award Bill, Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre Establishment Bill, Water User Association Regulation Bill, Office of the Public Defender Bill, Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems Agency Bill, and Hospitals Management Board Amendment Bill.
The decision signals a fresh round of legislative proposals touching multiple sectors of public administration and service delivery in the state.
The measures will now move to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, where lawmakers are expected to consider them for possible passage into law.
