
Governor Umo Eno has forwarded the names of five nominees to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as pioneer commissioners of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, AKSERC.
The nominations mark another step in the state’s push to establish its electricity regulatory framework following recent reforms aimed at strengthening power sector governance in Akwa Ibom.
The nominees submitted by the governor are Engr. Ubong Etokudoh for Commissioner, Engineering, Dr Valerie Okon Obot for Commissioner, Finance and Corporate Services, Mr Paul Okon for Commissioner, Economic Regulations, Dr Kalu Ukoha for Commissioner, Policy Planning and Innovation, and Ms Arit Okon Uya for Commissioner, Stakeholder Engagement and Consumer Affairs.
Etokudoh is identified as a Deputy Manager at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, while Obot is the pioneer Permanent Secretary in the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Power. Paul Okon is a Manager, Commercial, at Ibom Power Company Limited. Ukoha was nominated for the policy planning and innovation portfolio, while Uya, an Assistant General Manager at NERC, was nominated for stakeholder engagement and consumer affairs.
If confirmed by the House, the five nominees will serve as the first set of commissioners of AKSERC, the state body expected to oversee electricity regulation in Akwa Ibom.
The development is seen as a key institutional step in the state’s effort to deepen electricity sector administration, improve regulatory oversight, and support broader power market reforms.
