The Federal Government has begun fresh talks with the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund on plans to make police stations across the country Points of Presence on the Project BRIDGE network.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr ‘Bosun Tijani, disclosed this after a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu.
The engagement followed the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund on the deployment of digital infrastructure to support policing operations nationwide.
According to Tijani, the meeting focused on opportunities to use police stations as strategic access points on the Project BRIDGE network, while also exploring how improved connectivity can modernise police operations, strengthen service delivery and accelerate the digital transformation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Minister said the initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to build the digital infrastructure required to support public institutions, improve operational efficiency and deliver better outcomes for citizens.
During the engagement, officials also witnessed a live demonstration of Awarri’s AI-powered, voice-enabled local language statement capture and case management solution.
The platform is designed to improve the efficiency, accuracy and speed of investigative processes by helping officers capture statements in local languages and manage case records more effectively.
Tijani said he was encouraged by plans to begin deployment of the solution in Abuja and Lagos in the coming weeks before wider rollout across the country.
He said the digital transformation of public institutions remains critical to Nigeria’s future, noting that infrastructure alone will not be enough unless government institutions are equipped to adopt and use technology effectively.
“As we continue to build the digital infrastructure that powers Nigeria’s future, it is equally important that our public institutions are equipped to adopt and harness these technologies to deliver better outcomes for citizens,” the Minister said.
