The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced the successful completion of the River Niger crossing section of the OB3 Gas Pipeline, describing the milestone as a major boost to Nigeria’s gas infrastructure, power supply and industrial growth.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this in a statement on X, saying the crossing was executed two kilometres beneath the riverbed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling technology.
According to him, the completed section unlocks a transport capacity of two billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and supporting power generation, industrial development and wider economic growth.

Ojulari said the achievement followed the earlier success recorded on the AKK pipeline crossing and reflected disciplined execution, engineering innovation and strong collaboration between NNPC Limited, its partner, PCE Nigeria Limited, and other stakeholders.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his Gas-to-Prosperity agenda, as well as the NNPC Board led by Chairman Ahmadu Musa Kida, host communities and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company team for their support.
He said the OB3 Pipeline links the eastern and western gas corridors and connects to the northern corridor through the AKK Pipeline.
According to him, the AKK Pipeline is expected to unlock more than 500 million standard cubic feet of domestic gas per day to support power plants, fertiliser production, manufacturing and new industries across Kaduna, Kano and other parts of northern Nigeria.
He added that the project would support job creation, economic diversification, energy access and West African exports.
The OB3 Gas Pipeline is one of Nigeria’s key gas infrastructure projects designed to improve domestic gas distribution, support industrialisation and strengthen the country’s position in the regional gas market.
