Uyo Council Chairman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, has said his administration is laying a firm foundation for sustainable development in Uyo Local Government Area through targeted investments in people, infrastructure and inclusive governance.
Dr Udo made the statement on Monday, April 20, 2026, during a meeting with members of the Uyo Media Group led by its Chairman, Elder Patrick Albert. He used the occasion to outline ongoing projects and policy efforts across the council area.
He said his administration has placed strong emphasis on education and capacity building, noting that government programmes must deliver direct value to the people.

According to him, the goal is to build a development model that endures beyond the present administration, particularly in areas such as bursaries and statutory entitlements.
Dr Udo also highlighted several infrastructure projects currently underway. They include the renovation of the Community Health Centre in Atan Offot, the restoration of electricity in Nung Udoe Ediene after about five years without power, and the installation of solar-powered water facilities in Ikot Akpan Ediene.

He said more projects, including compassionate homes, are expected to be completed and delivered before the end of the year.
The council chairman said his administration would continue to work within available resources while maintaining steady progress. He also acknowledged the support of critical stakeholders and traditional institutions, saying they have been engaged with respect and recognition.
Dr Udo, who is also the Akwa Ibom chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, urged members of the Uyo Media Group to uphold professionalism, fairness and ethical standards in their work. He also stressed the need to create mentorship opportunities for younger media practitioners.
Earlier, Elder Patrick Albert described the meeting as timely and commended the leadership of the Uyo Local Government Council.
He said the Uyo Media Group, made up of media professionals and social media influencers from the area, remains committed to promoting unity, progress and development in Uyo.
Albert praised the performance of the council chairman and urged him to sustain the pace of development. He also assured him of the group’s readiness to serve as a dependable media partner in taking government activities closer to the grassroots.
He said the group’s commendation was based on facts and expressed confidence that continued commitment to development would earn the administration a favourable place in public judgment.
Albert also thanked Governor Umo Eno for what he described as his support and inclusion of Uyo indigenes in key positions, while reaffirming the group’s commitment to the success of the state government.
