Moves by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress have broken down after both sides failed to agree on how party control would be shared in the state.

The talks reportedly stalled over a proposed 60-40 formula for the control of the APC structure in Bauchi. The arrangement was said to be part of negotiations between the governor’s political camp and APC leaders, but the proposal was rejected.
Speaking on Saturday, Sama’ila Burga, chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction in Bauchi State, said the discussions had been discontinued because the conditions presented by the governor’s camp were not accepted.
He said the APC was unwilling to accommodate the existing PDP structure and the state government’s political base under the terms sought by the governor’s supporters.
Burga also said the discussions involved outreach from APC leaders and other political figures who tried to persuade Mohammed to join the ruling party. He added that after consultations with stakeholders, the Bauchi PDP faction decided to end the process.
According to him, the group has now ruled out joining the APC and is considering other political options.
The development leaves Governor Mohammed and his allies at a political crossroads as attention shifts to whether they will remain in the PDP or align with another platform ahead of future electoral calculations in the state.
