Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the Allied People’s Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed announced the move in Bauchi after a stakeholders’ meeting with members of his political structure, commissioners, special advisers and PDP officials in the state.
He was received into the APM by the party’s National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, who also issued him his membership card.
The governor said the decision followed wide consultations and failed efforts to resolve the crisis in the PDP, especially after the Supreme Court judgment which nullified the party’s November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan.
According to him, the continuing instability in the PDP made it necessary for him and his supporters to seek a platform that would allow them to organise effectively ahead of the next elections.
Mohammed said the APM offers a stable political structure for his supporters, adding that the party is not affected by legal disputes that could hinder its participation in the electoral process.
He said his movement to the APM came with his full political structure from the ward to the state level.
The governor also announced that some members of the State Executive Council who intend to contest elective offices had resigned their appointments.
He said a compliance committee had been set up to manage the transition, while online membership registration, engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission and grassroots mobilisation would begin immediately.
Dantalle welcomed Mohammed and his supporters to the party, assuring them that the APM was ready to work with them.
He said the party remained free of litigation and was open to leaders committed to service, sacrifice and integrity.
Mohammed also confirmed his intention to contest the Bauchi South senatorial seat in 2027.
He said he had accepted calls from people in the senatorial district to return to the National Assembly, adding that he considered it a duty to serve if given the opportunity.
Mohammed was first elected senator for Bauchi South in 2007 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. He later served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2010 before joining the PDP.
The APM was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2018 and participated in the 2019 general elections.
