The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed media reports suggesting that its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, appealed against a suspension, saying the accounts are misleading and stripped of proper context.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party said although Anyanwu filed an appeal, the action was not related to any suspension. It explained that the case began at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where he challenged the competence and proceedings of a disciplinary committee previously headed by Tom Ikimi.
According to the PDP, the committee only recommended a suspension and that recommendation was never considered, adopted or ratified by either the National Working Committee, NWC, or the National Executive Committee, NEC. The party said the recommendation therefore had no binding effect and no valid suspension was in force at any time.
The PDP further stated that the disciplinary committee and its recommendations had already been set aside by the party leadership after it was found that the committee was constituted in breach of Chapter 10, Article 57(1) of the party’s constitution.
It also clarified the outcome of the FCT High Court judgment delivered by Justice Halilu in January 2026, stressing that the court did not affirm any suspension because suspension was never the issue before it. The party said the court dismissed the suit for lack of jurisdiction after ruling that disciplinary matters within a political party are internal affairs and not subject to judicial determination.
The party said the appeal, which it described as having been inadvertently filed on April 10, 2026, has now been ordered withdrawn because it is no longer necessary.
PDP added that Senator Anyanwu and others mentioned in the disputed reports had already completed their tenure since last year.
The opposition party also referenced a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which it described as a landmark judgment that upheld the composition of its National Caretaker Committee and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise it.
It added that its Abuja National Convention held on March 29 and 30, 2026, was conducted with full legal backing, in line with valid judgments of the High Court and the Court of Appeal, and was monitored by INEC.
The PDP called on media organisations to verify and properly contextualise reports before publication. It urged the public, party members and stakeholders to ignore what it described as distorted accounts intended to create confusion.
The statement said the party remains committed to rebuilding and repositioning itself ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement was signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed.
