The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has redeployed the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Obo Effanga, to Edo State, with Prof. Anugbum Onuoha taking over as the new REC in Akwa Ibom.

The redeployment is seen as part of the commission’s routine administrative changes aimed at strengthening electoral management and maintaining operational efficiency across states.
Effanga served in Akwa Ibom during a period that featured voter registration activities, stakeholder engagements and preparations tied to the commission’s wider electoral responsibilities. His time in office also coincided with efforts to deepen voter education and improve public confidence in the electoral process.
Onuoha arrives in Akwa Ibom with experience in election administration, having previously served as REC in Edo. His posting to the state places him at the centre of INEC’s operations in Akwa Ibom ahead of future electoral activities.
The development has drawn attention among political stakeholders in the state, especially as INEC continues efforts to uphold neutrality, professionalism and credibility in the conduct of elections.
The commission is yet to issue a detailed public statement on the latest redeployment, but reports indicate that handover activities have already taken place.
