Residents of Uyo and nearby communities are set to experience intermittent power outages for 14 days following a planned maintenance exercise on the Uyo/Itu 132kV transmission line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said the outage is part of ongoing work on the transmission line to allow contractors to string the Optical Ground Wire along the route.
According to the company, the maintenance will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for 14 days, at three days each week, beginning from April 9, 2026. TCN said the project is expected to improve the line’s wheeling capacity, reduce frequent outages, and strengthen system stability when completed.
The company said contractors are already on site and working to ensure that bulk power supply is restored as quickly as possible.
As a result of the maintenance, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to take supply for distribution to customers in Uyo, Eket, Ekim, and Ibom Power during the outage period.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience and said efforts are being made to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe.
